After my master in Youth Studies of Interdisciplinairy Social Sciences I started working at Movisie as a (junior) researcher. Movisie is the national research institute for a coherent approach to social issues. In cooperation with professionals, we develop knowledge about what really works and how to apply that knowledge. I am mainly involved in improving social interventions and research on minority groups (non-Western migrants and LHBTI). Through desk research and qualitative (evaluation) research. In which we want to strengthen and improve practice by converting both existing and new research into practical tips, tools, guidelines or workshops. In order to apply scientific knowledge in practice.
For example, we have carried out a literature study to determine whether it is possible to tackle different grounds of discrimination with a single intervention. In which we looked at the problem and the possible approach from different disciplines. This resulted in a report that we were able to present to people from the field and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment. The practical tips that emerged from this research are now used to further improve existing interventions. In this way we try to advise the professionals in using interventions that really work.
